Deaf and Hearing Impaired

Callers using TTY equipment must dial 9-1-1 to reach police, fire and emergency medical assistance

  • All call takers are fully equipped to answer these calls
  • Call takers are fully trained in the procedure to answer these calls
  • Frequent test calls are done to ensure all call takers maintain their TTY skills

 

Interpreter Services

  • Call takers have access to interpreters who can assist them in communicating with callers
  • The 9-1-1 call taker will connect you to an interpreter, and they will coordinate their assistance

 To Access Interpreter Services

  • Call 9-1-1 – state that this is an emergency (needing police, fire or medical response) and what language or dialect you speak.
  • The call taker will conference the call with an interpreter
  • Please allow the interpreter to control the conversation, to ensure the call taker can quickly dispatch the appropriate emergency responders (police, fire or medical) to the correct location
