Bothell Business Owner Locates His Own Stolen Canoe

Canoe on top of vehicle

Earlier this morning, the owner of “What’s Sup” (a paddle board and canoe rental company) arrived at work and realized that one of his canoes was missing and that the security cable had been cut.  The business owner saw marks left in the gravel that appeared to be from the hull of a canoe.  The marks led from where the canoe had been secured, to the edge of the Sammamish River. The business owner then noticed what he thought was a suspicious vehicle parked near his storage container.  The business owner was not sure if the vehicle was possibly connected to his missing canoe so, just in case, he took a picture.

The business owner’s wife contacted police to file a report while the he made a check of the Sammamish River for the missing canoe.  A short time later the business owner returned to Bothell Landing Park and noticed the suspicious vehicle was no longer parked near his storage unit.

A few minutes after returning to Bothell Landing, the business owner saw the same suspicious vehicle on SR 522 at 98 AVE NE and he could see his canoe on top of the vehicle.  The business owner called the police.  The suspect vehicle was stopped at the red light and the business owner “boxed in” the vehicle and waited for police.  The police arrived shortly after and took the suspected canoe thief into custody.

The suspect was booked into King County Jail for an outstanding warrant for Possession of Stolen Property.  The charges from today’s case will be referred to the King County Prosecutor’s Office.
