The Bothell Police Department obtains a confession from a suspect in an attempted robbery that took place in Bothell in December. The Bothell Police Department has forwarded a case for Attempted Robbery 1st Degree to the Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office.

As background, on December 17, 2016 at 10:40 PM a woman and her 12 year-old daughter were walking into a restaurant, located in the 22900 block of the Bothell Everett Highway, in the City of Bothell. As they were walking, the woman was approached from behind by an adult male who grabbed her purse strap and pushed her, causing her to stumble and fall onto a bench. The woman held onto her purse and the suspect fled on foot. The crime was immediately reported to the police.

A police canine track was attempted but the suspect was not located. The woman was later treated for injuries sustained during the incident. The daughter was unharmed. Video surveillance at the restaurant captured the incident.

Bothell detectives investigated the crime and analyzed the video, but the quality of the video was poor. During the investigation, Bothell detectives interviewed a suspect who was being held at the King County jail on unrelated charges. The suspect confessed to the Bothell robbery and provided a recorded statement. The suspect said he tried to steal the woman’s purse to fund his heroin addiction.
