[ARCHIVED] One-block closure of Main Street to start Dec. 8

Main Street closure map

The City will close Main Street between 101st and 102nd avenues to vehicles in downtown Bothell beginning on Friday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. until at least January 12 around 5 p.m.

The weekend closure is for safety and to minimize impacts of Main Street construction on Saturday’s Holiday Wine, Beer & Spirit Walk. The month-long closure is for construction of the Main Street Enhancement project.

The closure may be extended if it will help complete the project faster. Staff will evaluate the closure in early January and inform the public if the closure will be extended.

Crews are completely removing and replacing the roadway, sidewalks, parking stalls, lighting and landscaping as part of the Main Street Enhancement Project.

Businesses and sidewalks on Main Street remain open. Parking is available in a temporary lot between SR 522 and Main Street, as well as at City Hall (18415 101st Ave NE). Parking is also available in the new access lane on Bothell Way.

Project Schedule

The contractor submitted a draft schedule update showing a completion date in February 2018. Staff is working with the contractor to get it done sooner.

There was a delay in obtaining the metal sleeves for the bollards to cast in the concrete. Roadway, curb, and sidewalk work could not begin until the bollard foundations are completed. Also, underground utility work also took longer than the contractor anticipated.

What is the City doing to keep the project moving?

The City’s goals are to keep access to businesses open and traffic moving while allowing construction to proceed as quickly as possible. We are looking at various options to keep the project moving, including allowing the contractor to work weekends. We are working with the Main Street business community and the contractor to see what options might work best.
