The City of Bothell is elated that Senate Bill 5825, which authorizes funding for the construction of dual express toll lanes on I-405 between SR 522 and SR 527 and funds construction of direct access ramps at 522 and 527, was passed by a super majority of the Senate.
Interstate 405/State Route 167 (I-405/SR 167) is a key north-south corridor through the state’s most populated region. This corridor has historically been one of the most congested portions of the state’s transportation network – and while significant strides have been made to build out this corridor and enhance mobility, more work is needed. Passage of SB 5825 provides up to $600 million for north end improvements on I-405.
These improvements are urgently needed in order to support the successful deployment of I-405 Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). Sound Transit is scheduled to begin BRT service in 2024 and without the improvements authorized in Senate Bill 5825, transit service will not be able to offer a reliable trip time.
The City of Bothell, who led the effort to include the north end improvements on I-405 as part of this project, urges the House of Representatives to pass Senate Bill 5825 to authorize the already planned tolling and bonding necessary to fund the north end improvements. Senate Bill 5825 is good for Bothell, good for the north end and good for the state of Washington.
