Three Bothell firefighters deployed to Sonoma, CA early Monday morning to help battle the Kincade Fire that has rapidly spread across 75,415 acres and is 15 percent contained.
Firefighters John Deaver, Cody Barwell and Hugh Moag, are part of a Wildland Engine Strike Team comprised of 19 personnel from Seattle, Eastside, Shoreline, Bothell, Valley Regional and Duvall Fire Departments.
Crews are likely to work 12 to 24 hour shifts for the next 14 days, not including travel time. All firefighters being deployed are “red card” certified, meaning they have been trained specifically in wildland firefighting, which is very different than traditional structural firefighting.
A total of seven task forces from 31 departments have departed from Washington state, with more expected to deploy to help fight the blaze.
