[ARCHIVED] Bothell Police Welcomes New Community Engagement Coordinator

Community Engagement Coordinator Cam Johnson with Chief Seuberlich

Bothell Police Welcomes Cam Johnson as New Community Engagement Coordinator

We are proud to announce the hiring of our voter-approved, levy funded Community Engagement Coordinator, Cam Johnson.  With this hire, the City of Bothell is fulfilling its promise to voters who supported the November 2018 Safe and Secure measures, which created new positions within the Bothell Police and Fire Departments.

You might recognize Cam from the King 5 News morning show, or Northwest Cable News.  For more than 25 years, Cam has been a trusted name in regional news coverage.  She’s also a volunteer public affairs officer with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.  In all of these roles, Cam has been valued for her creativity in sharing engaging, meaningful stories and information.

“We are excited to have Cam on board as our Community Engagement Coordinator/PIO,” said Bothell Police Chief Ken Seuberlich. “Her energy and experience are a real win for Bothell.”

You’ll see Cam’s work on our website and social media pages, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Nextdoor.  As our public information officer, she will also help coordinate the flow of accurate, timely information with media and journalists.

"I have another role here that's just as important to me and to Bothell Police," said Cam.  "I'll help the department reach out to the community, especially to underrepresented groups and residents. Bothell is proud of its growing diversity and we want to make sure all voices are heard and valued.  I share that passion.  Great things are possible when we share and really listen to each other.”

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to make face-to face communication challenging, but through video conference, email, phone and direct messaging through social media, Cam is getting started in her new role; helping to bridge communication between the community and Bothell Police.

“I’d love to hear community members ideas,” said Cam.  “Let’s get creative and try new ways to connect.  The most important thing is for everyone in the community to know that their thoughts, feelings and concerns matter.  They’re important.”

Cam’s love for Bothell is far from new.  She spent quite a bit of time in Bothell in her youth, while her dad, Marty Johnson, taught for Northshore School District and coached basketball at Bothell High School.  Her grandmother, Bette Johnson, worked at People’s Bank on Main Street in Bothell for three decades.

“Bothell feels like home to me,” said Cam. “I love Bothell and I am so excited to be the new Community Engagement Coordinator for Bothell Police.  I’ve been getting to know the officers and they are really eager to share more about what they’re doing every day to make Bothell a great place to live, work and play.”

“I see my role as one that takes Bothell Police one step further in their mission to “proactively partner” with the community.  Those words are in the Bothell Police mission statement.” Cam said.  “Partnering starts with open communication. I am so excited and honored to be given the opportunity to help that communication grow.”

If you’d like to reach out to Cam, you can email her at Cam.Johnson@BothellWa.gov .  You can also connect with her and Bothell Police on Twitter, Facebook Nextdoor, and Instagram.
