Bothell City Manager Announces Retirement

The Bothell City Council and City Manager Jennifer Phillips announce that an agreement to separate her employment will be on the agenda for the Tuesday, February 9th City Council meeting. The Council is expected to approve the agreement.  If that occurs, Ms. Phillips’ last work day will be February 12th, 2021.

Hired over four years ago, Ms. Phillips came to the city with an extensive public administration background to take a fresh look at our city government. Helping us meet the needs of a rapidly growing city, she restructured city departments, built an outstanding executive leadership team, and helped streamline many government functions. City Council applauds Jennifer for navigating our pandemic and emergency management response over the last year.  She has always shown strong and steady leadership for city staff and the community throughout her time with the City.

As Bothell moves into a new phase, this separation agreement works for both the City and Ms. Phillips.  Under the agreement, Ms. Phillips will receive severance compensation in an amount equivalent to six months salary and deferred compensation and 12 months of health benefits.

Jennifer is looking forward to retirement and spending more time with family and traveling once the pandemic has subsided. She thanks the Bothell community and city staff for their unwavering support, especially during 2020, a year that was challenging and unprecedented for local government.

At Tuesday’s meeting, City Council is also expected to initiate recruitment for a new permanent manager and discuss how the role will be filled in the interim.

Any questions should be directed to Becky Range, Assistant to the City Manager, becky.range@bothellwa.gov, 425-806-6144.
