BOTHELL, WA – On February 2, Bothell City Council agreed to move forward with the final design and construction of Fire Stations 42 (Downtown Headquarters) and 45 (Canyon Park). Construction is expected to begin in July 2021, with firefighters moving into their new stations by 2022.
“This is an exciting milestone, we're well on our way to having two new fire stations that will serve Bothell for decades to come. We cannot thank the community enough for their appreciation and support,” Bothell Fire Chief Bruce Kroon said.
The Build Team, BNBuilders/Miller Hull, are working to finalize the design of both stations, which is 75% complete. The team’s next steps will be building interim facilities to house crews and apparatus during construction, and to move forward with demolition of the existing fire stations, anticipated to begin this July. Stations 42 and 45 are projected to be complete and “move in ready” by 2022.
The Fire Stations Replacement Project is almost entirely funded by the 2018 voter-approved Safe and Secure Bond, worth $35.5 million. On February 2, City Council approved an amended Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) and total project cost of $38 million. The additional $2.5 million of the total project cost will be funded by future fire impact fees.
"I am thrilled to see the city moving forward with design and construction. We expect to see a lot of growth in Bothell and these new stations will be built to last," Councilmember Agnew said. "They will meet the future needs of our community and of our firefighters."
Both Fire Stations will have designated decontamination areas to improve firefighter health and safety, individual sleeping quarters, adequate room for growth, and space for proper care and storage of vehicles and equipment. City of Bothell thanks the community for supporting the Safe and Secure Bond which has made the Fire Stations Replacement Project possible.
