[ARCHIVED] Bothell Police Arrest Suspect, Warn Residents About Sham Moving-Companies

On Thursday, August 12, Bothell Police recovered a stolen rental truck and arrested the driver.
Inside the truck: a lot of moving boxes and furniture that will now get to their rightful owners.

This may be part of a much larger moving-company scheme. The case is originated and is currently under investigation by the Salem Police Department.

In typical scams like this:  Victims hire and pay what they think is a legitimate moving company.  A truck hauls away their worldly goods – but it never arrives at their new home.

Instead, they may get a call demanding another payment.  This time - it’s really big money.  If the victim doesn’t pay, they never see their stuff again.
Not this time.

How can you protect yourself against a scam like this?

  • Make sure you work with licensed, bonded companies.
  • If a deal seems too good to be true:  It is.
  • If you hire one company – make sure the workers who arrive are actually employees of that company, not subcontractors.
Moving is hard enough on a family - without having to go through something like this.
