Beloved Tools Returned, Thanks to Good Teamwork

Matt Harmon is a good, helpful neighbor.  When a storm hits,  he volunteers his time and his favorite tools to help clear fallen debris.  He's invested quite a bit of his hard-earned money into the power tools that make a big job easier.

So, Harmon was not happy in November, when a car prowler struck his neighborhood and stole two chainsaws from his vehicle.  But Harmon did a lot of things right that helped Bothell Police find and return them.  He also helped with accountability.  A suspect is now in custody, facing multiple charges.

When Harmon saw that his tools were stolen,  he swiftly

  • reported the crime
  • accessed his porch video, and talked with neighbors (especially those with security cameras)
  • retrieved pictures and serial numbers of his tools, which he'd carefully documented and saved

Those steps really helped our detectives locate and identify the stolen items and a suspect in the car prowls.

Learn more about the importance of saving the serial numbers of your valuables,  and free, online tools you can use to safely & privately store the information. smiling man holds two big chainsaws outside his home
