[ARCHIVED] Bothell City Hall Gallery Showcases New Exhibit

Image of John Worthey, Local Artist

Local Artist, John Worthey, now has oil paintings on display at Bothell City Hall Gallery through May 2, 2023.

“We are so excited to showcase all the wonderful regional artists selected through 2024,” said Bothell Arts Commission Gallery Chair, Katrina Sather. “The gallery space is free and open to the public. We encourage everyone to stop in during business hours to view the amazing artwork. John’s experience and background inspired the jury committee, which recommended him. I think people will appreciate the depth and honesty found in his pieces.”

Worthey gains his inspiration from life's little moments that are often taken for granted. Shells washed ashore on a sandy beach, the shadows that play along the upper deck of a ferry traveling somewhere on the Salish Sea, or the humor found in everyday objects randomly paired together in "Mac and Two Snuff Bottles (pictured below)."

Worthey received his BFA in Painting at the University of Washington and studied under Northwest icons Jacob Lawrence and George Tsutakawa. His work has been shown at the Sales Rental Gallery at Seattle Art Museum, the John Pence Gallery in San Francisco, CA, and Fountain Gallery in Portland, OR, to name but a few.

Worthey's work is for sale, and additional pieces may be found on his website. The City of Bothell Arts Commission does not broker sales; you may contact the artist directly through his website. You can also meet John and talk to him about his work during the Bothell Art Scene Art Walk on Thursday, March 9 from 5-8 p.m.

Worthey was selected to show his work after a competitive call was administered by the Bothell Arts Commission.

Every three months, a different local artist’s work is showcased in the Bothell City Hall Gallery, located on the first floor. Community members can visit the gallery anytime during City Hall hours. Learn more about the City Hall Gallery, including hours, location, and featured artists here.
