The City of Bothell is excited to welcome Gabi Cuna as our new Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Coordinator.
Gabi possesses an M.Ed. in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration and has experience cultivating organizational and systemic change through policy implementation, mentorship, training, community building and program creation.
“A lot of what interests me in this work is my own background. As a person of color and a queer person growing up in the South, I had to focus a lot on creating spaces of equity and belongingness for my own survival,” Gabi said. “My motivation comes from my own experiences with marginalization and I want to create spaces where people feel accepted and affirmed.”
As the DEI Coordinator for Bothell, Gabi will work closely with staff and community members to develop a sustainable DEI Program for the City.
Gabi will also support departments in implementing Bothell’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) Roadmap. The DEIB Roadmap is a five-year work plan with tangible action items and timelines to ensure that the City’s DEI efforts continue to move forward, bringing real and lasting change to all areas of city government. This roadmap will help ensure we are providing high-quality services to everyone in our community, in ways that meet their needs and expectations.
“Something that I am really excited about is that DEI has been happening in many different pockets of the city. There are already a lot of programs that are creating equitable, affirming and safe environments,” Gabi said. “It’s just a matter of coming together to create a shared vision and understanding for DEI.”
Gabi looks forward to building community and fostering equitable, accessible services for all. On their spare time, they enjoy getting outside, camping, reading and playing boardgames and videogames.
Please join us in welcoming Gabi Cuna to the City of Bothell.
