Join Bothell Fire Department at Station 45 on Monday, August 14 at noon to celebrate Bothell’s new Aid Unit, 145. Attendees will hear remarks from city leaders about this exciting asset and what it means for Bothell while enjoying complimentary cake and light refreshments. Limited parking is available at Bristol Myers Squibb.
“This is really big news…we haven’t added a response vehicle to the Fire Department in over 25 years,” Bothell Fire Chief Mark Risen shares.” Having a full-time aid unit in north Bothell and staff to operate it, means we’ll have more resources to respond to critical incidents like residential fires, car accidents, and cardiac arrests.”
Additional benefits for the community and department include reduced response times, an increase in patient transports by Bothell units, enhanced service delivery, and an up-to-date staffing model that reflects the city’s current population and call volume.
Adding another full-time aid unit to the Fire Department’s fleet does require additional staffing. On July 11, City Council unanimously approved 4.6 Firefighter/EMT positions.
Fire Station 45 will now have a minimum of five firefighters on duty at all times rather than three to ensure Aid Unit 145 and Engine 145 can remain in service and responding to calls at the same time.
Aid Unit 145 and the 4.6 Firefighter/EMT positions are funded by the Safe and Secure Levy that was approved by Bothell voters in 2018. The Safe and Secure Levy also funds an additional six Firefighter/EMT positions as well as several other public safety roles for the city.
Community members can learn more about the Safe and Secure Levy, as well as the Bond that supported the recent construction of Fire Stations 42 and 45, by visiting bothellwa.gov/safeandsecure.
Thank you to our community for supporting public safety.
